• The Family of H. Hugh Sellers & Dr. Edward A. Sellers: In enduring memory of Vice Principal H. Hugh Sellers (1945–1972), whose warmth, pedagogical innovation, and 26-mile UNICEF walkathons inspired generations of students, and Dr. Edward A. Sellers, founding director of the Banting & Best Diabetes Centre.
• Elford Bradley Cox, RCA (1914–2003): Master Canadian sculptor whose direct-carved Indiana limestone bear gave tactile physical form to children's play and remembrance upon the school grounds.

2. Indigenous Protocol & Territorial Reverence

We acknowledge the land upon which the Guardian Bear rests as the traditional ancestral territory of the Michi Saagiig Anishinaabeg covered under the Williams Treaties (1923) and the historic 2018 Williams Treaties Settlement Agreement.

We extend our deepest gratitude and enduring respect to the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation and sister Michi Saagiig nations—including Curve Lake First Nation, Alderville First Nation, and Hiawatha First Nation—as well as the Chippewa Nations of Georgina Island, Rama, and Beausoleil.

In Anishinaabe ontology, the Indiana limestone and glacial granite plinth supporting the sculpture are not inert minerals, but Mishomisag (Grandfather Stones)—the oldest living beings on Turtle Island, possessing sacred memory and grounding of the earth.

Anishinaabemowin translations across this portal are preliminary community consultation drafts informed by the teachings of Elder Gidigaa Migizi (Doug Williams) and The Ojibwe People's Dictionary. Formal cultural and linguistic review is conducted respectfully under sacred Asemaa protocol (Tobacco in the left hand) and institutional honoraria.
